1. A referral from a family member, friend, business associate – this method is effective IF your particular matter is what the referred lawyer specialises in – there is no point seeing a lawyer you have been referred to that does not hold the expertise you need however if they do, than a lawyer referred to you by someone who has been happy with their service (having used the service themselves before) is ideal.

2. Responding to advertising – yellow pages, newspapers, tv and radio adverts, internet searches. There is no guarantee that just because you call the law firm with the biggest and best advertising that you will end up dealing with the best law firm or lawyer.

3. Visiting your local lawyers office – certainly convenient to drop in to the nearest law firm but once again, same issues as responding to advertising – convenience but perhaps not the experience you are looking for.
